I took a break for a while but I’m back.
Thankfully the past two months have been great and I’ve learnt a whole lot and I’ll definitely be sharing.
Today’s post is about personal branding I read an article on it and took notes down (stuff I want to remember basically).
Enjoy!
“Personal Branding is the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as brands. While previous self-help management techniques were about self-improvement, the personal-branding concept suggests instead that success comes from self-packaging.” – Wikipedia
My personal brand communicates my value & sets me apart from my competitors. When people begin to seek my knowledge, expertise & talent, then my brand is effective.
Establishing a brand requires a thoughtful process and it grows overtime. It’s up to me to cultivate it. Authenticity is the foundation of my brand. (Originality is key). Focus most on my appealing and powerful attributes (these are the qualities that truly define me). What description would I give myself ?
Am I spirited, persistent, a contributor?
Develop my professional biography. Start from my work history. Use it to explain why I accepted certain positions, how I performed, and what specifically motivated me. This biography is an appropriate depiction of me professionally but through a personal lens. The goal (my professional biography) is to captivate my audience by creating a vivid emotional connection
Personal brand statement: my vision, goals, values & passion. Clearly explain my approach to problem solving and meeting needs. Should be short & concise.
Brand profile: this expands on the concepts and themes in my statement. My profile becomes useful in shaping my web page or cover letter.
Resume: have an executive summary. Highlight why I’m uniquely qualified for the position as well as add my personal brand statement.
Create a personal website that reinforces my brand through my personal brand statement resume and biography. Remember that clarity and consistency are essential to creating an effective brand. Explain who I am and who I am not.
A strong brand is stable and communicated consistently regardless of the medium. Voicemail, Email Signature, Business Card, Cover letter, Resume. Make myself known. I will only be branded if i’m consistently on view to my target audience. The goal is to extend or reinforce my brand at every opportunity without negating it.
“It’s not the people I get to know as much as it’s the people who get to know me“.
