Jeremiah 6–11: The God Who Still Speaks to Those Willing to Listen.

One truth echoed through Jeremiah 6–11 more than any other: God is still speaking. The real question is whether His people are listening.

Again and again, God warned Judah, pleaded with them, corrected them, and invited them back. He wasn’t silent. They simply refused to hear.

As I reflected on these chapters, I found myself asking a personal question:

Am I listening as intentionally as God is speaking?

God Is Always Speaking—Are We Listening?

“I’ve got something to say. Is anybody listening?” (Jeremiah 6:10)

Jeremiah describes a people whose ears had become spiritually dull. God’s warnings weren’t hidden; they were ignored.

This wasn’t an information problem—it was a heart problem.

That challenged me deeply because we often pray for direction while unintentionally filtering out the answers God has already given through Scripture, conviction, wise counsel, or the quiet prompting of His Spirit.

In this season of rebuilding my business, making long-term decisions, and trusting God with the future, I’m reminded that breakthrough isn’t just about receiving new instructions. Sometimes it’s about finally obeying the ones He has already spoken.

The Old Paths Are Still the Best Paths

“Stand at the crossroads… ask for the old road…” (Jeremiah 6:16)

God invited His people to return to “the tried-and-true road”—His timeless ways.

They refused.

Our generation constantly celebrates what’s new, faster, and more innovative. Yet God reminds us that the safest path is often His ancient path of obedience, integrity, humility, prayer, and dependence on Him.

Whether we’re building businesses, serving in leadership, preparing for marriage, or pursuing purpose, success built outside God’s ways is never lasting.

Sometimes the greatest innovation is simple obedience.

God Wants Changed Hearts, Not Religious Performance

Jeremiah 7:3-15

The people trusted the Temple while ignoring the God who dwelt there.

They believed their religious activities could compensate for disobedient lifestyles.

God exposed that illusion.

True worship is reflected in how we treat people, steward influence, lead with integrity, and care for those around us.

It reminded me that ministry, church attendance, content creation, generosity, or public faith cannot replace private obedience.

God is far more interested in transformed hearts than impressive appearances.

Obedience Has Always Been God’s Desire

One statement summarized these chapters beautifully:

“Obey Me… Do what I command so your lives will go well.”

God’s commands have never been about restriction.

They are protection.

Every instruction He gives is rooted in His love and His desire for our flourishing.

Whether He asks us to wait, forgive, slow down, build differently, or trust Him longer than we’d planned, His ways are always leading us toward life.

God’s Correction Never Cancels His Love

One detail I couldn’t overlook was how often, even while announcing judgment, God still referred to Judah as “My dear daughter.”

That moved me.

God’s discipline flowed from covenant love, not rejection.

As believers, we sometimes mistake correction for abandonment.

Jeremiah reminds us that God lovingly corrects those He still calls His own.

His rebuke is evidence that He hasn’t given up.

Knowing God Is Greater Than Achievement

Jeremiah 9:23-24

One of the most beautiful passages in these chapters reminds us not to boast in wisdom, strength, or wealth.

Instead, God says our greatest confidence should be this:

That we know Him.

In a world driven by titles, influence, revenue, followers, and accomplishments, this verse reorders our priorities.

Success is wonderful.

Growth is exciting.

But nothing compares to knowing the character of God—His justice, mercy, faithfulness, and steadfast love.

Everything else can disappear.

Knowing Him remains.

The Living God Still Speaks

Jeremiah 10

One contrast stood out to me.

Idols cannot speak.

They cannot walk.

They cannot lead.

They cannot warn.

They cannot comfort.

But our God is different.

He is alive.

He speaks.

He reveals.

He protects.

He prepares us for what lies ahead.

He is the ultimate Teacher, Coach, Shepherd, Father, and Friend.

This reminded me that one of Christianity’s greatest privileges is not simply believing in God—it is walking with a God who actively communicates with His children.

Leaders Must Seek God’s Counsel

Jeremiah 10:21 says the leaders failed because they never asked God for counsel.

That verse convicted me.

Whether we’re leading a family, a ministry, a business, or even just our own lives, wisdom isn’t found merely in experience or intelligence.

Healthy leadership begins by asking God.

Prayer isn’t the final step after every other strategy fails.

It is where wise leadership begins.

God Reveals What We Cannot See

Jeremiah 11 closes with God revealing hidden plots against Jeremiah.

The prophet had no idea what was happening behind the scenes until God opened his eyes.

That was comforting.

There are conversations we won’t hear.

Decisions we won’t witness.

Doors God quietly closes.

People He protects us from without us ever knowing.

Our responsibility isn’t to uncover everything.

It’s simply to remain close enough to God that when we need to know something, He faithfully reveals it.

May we never become people who ask God to speak while ignoring His voice.

Instead, may we become people who hear Him, trust Him, obey Him, and walk confidently along His tried-and-true path.

Father, thank You because You are the living God who still speaks today. Give me a heart that is sensitive to Your voice and quick to obey, even when Your instructions stretch me. Keep me from relying on appearances, achievements, or my own understanding. Teach me to seek Your counsel before making decisions, to embrace Your correction as an expression of Your love, and to value knowing You above every earthly success. Open my eyes to what I need to see, protect me from what I cannot see, and lead me continually in Your ancient paths. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
