When God Works While We Wait: Lessons from Isaiah 64–66.

Isaiah 64–66 closes with a powerful contrast. God is compassionate, present, and ready to act—but His people do not always seek Him or listen when He speaks. These chapters invite us to trust God’s timing while remaining humble, prayerful, and obedient.

God Works for Those Who Wait for Him — Isaiah 64:4

Isaiah declares that no one has ever seen or heard of another God who “works for those who wait for him.” In context, God’s people are longing for Him to intervene, restore them, and display His power again.

Biblical waiting is not passive resignation. It is active trust. We continue praying, preparing, serving, and obeying while leaving the outcome with God.

This matters in seasons of rebuilding. Whether we are nurturing a marriage, restoring our health, growing a business, developing as leaders, or trying to understand our purpose, delays can feel like abandonment. Yet God may be working in places we cannot see—arranging circumstances while also shaping our character.

God Welcomes Those Who Gladly Do Good — Isaiah 64:5

Isaiah reminds us that God welcomes those who joyfully practise righteousness and remember His ways. The emphasis is not on earning God’s love through perfect behaviour. It is about a heart that genuinely desires to walk with Him.

Obedience is easier to sustain when it flows from love rather than fear. Small acts of honesty, patience, generosity, and faithfulness matter. The way we treat a spouse, lead a team, serve our community, or conduct our business can become an expression of worship.

God Is Ready to Be Found — Isaiah 65:1

God says, “I was ready to respond, but no one asked for help.” This reveals both His availability and the tragedy of ignoring Him. The people pursued their own ways instead of turning toward the God who was already reaching out to them.

Sometimes we exhaust every strategy before asking God for help. We plan, worry, research, and seek advice—then treat prayer as a final option. This verse gently invites us to begin with God. His “Here I am” reminds us that He is not distant, even when life feels uncertain.

God Can Answer Before We Finish Praying — Isaiah 65:24

God promises, “I will answer them before they even call to me.” In context, this belongs to Isaiah’s vision of renewed creation—a future marked by peace, blessing, and intimate fellowship with God.

This does not mean every prayer will be answered exactly as we expect. It means God is never caught unprepared. He understands our needs before we can articulate them. In seasons of waiting, that truth brings peace: God is already present in tomorrow.

God Values a Humble and Contrite Heart — Isaiah 66:2

God looks with favour upon those who are humble, repentant, and deeply attentive to His Word. Impressive achievements cannot replace a surrendered heart.

This is especially important in leadership, marriage, ministry, and business. Growth can tempt us to rely on competence while neglecting dependence on God. Humility keeps us teachable. A contrite heart allows God to correct us without pushing Him away.

Hearing God Must Lead to Obedience — Isaiah 66:4

God explains that when He called, the people refused to answer. They heard His voice but deliberately chose what displeased Him.

Waiting on God should never become an excuse to delay something He has already made clear. Sometimes we need more patience; at other times, we need courage to obey. The question is not only, “God, when will You answer me?” but also, “Have I responded to what You already said?”
