There is something beautifully grounding about the way Ecclesiastes ends. After spending twelve chapters exploring the uncertainty of life, the Teacher doesn’t leave us discouraged. Instead, he points us toward what truly lasts: trusting God, living wisely, working diligently, enjoying His gifts, and remembering that eternity gives meaning to everything we do.
These chapters reminded me that while I cannot control outcomes, I can control my obedience. I cannot predict tomorrow, but I can faithfully steward today.
Our Lives Are Safely in God’s Hands
“Even though the actions of godly and wise people are in God’s hands, no one knows whether God will show them favor… The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone…” (Ecclesiastes 9:1–2)
The Teacher reminds us that life is unpredictable. Sometimes faithful people experience hardship while those who ignore God seem to prosper. We naturally want life to follow a simple equation: obedience equals immediate reward.
But Scripture gently reminds us that God is sovereign, even when His ways are difficult to understand.
This has been particularly encouraging during my own rebuilding season. There have been moments where I’ve done everything I knew to do—worked diligently, prayed faithfully, planned carefully—yet some outcomes remained outside my control. These verses remind me that my responsibility is faithfulness, while God’s responsibility is the outcome.
Believers today can rest knowing that our lives are never outside God’s hands, even when life doesn’t unfold according to our expectations.
Enjoy the Gifts God Gives You
“So go ahead. Eat your food with joy… Wear fine clothes, with a splash of cologne!” (Ecclesiastes 9:7–8)
I love how practical this verse is.
Sometimes in our pursuit of purpose, we forget that God also delights in our joy.
Celebrating a meal with family, dressing well, laughing with friends, taking care of ourselves—these are not distractions from God’s will. They can be expressions of gratitude for His goodness.
There is wisdom in learning to celebrate today’s blessings while trusting God for tomorrow’s prayers.
Do Everything with Excellence
“Whatever you do, do well…” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
This verse deeply resonates with me because excellence has become one of the values I want to build both my life and work around.
Whether I’m writing, leading projects, teaching, serving clients, building a business, or serving in ministry, I want my work to reflect the God I represent.
Not because excellence earns God’s love, but because He deserves my best.
Excellence is worship.
Success Isn’t Always Predictable
“The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race…” (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
This verse removes so much unnecessary pressure.
The most talented person isn’t always the one who succeeds first.
The smartest entrepreneur doesn’t always build the biggest company.
The strongest leader doesn’t always receive the greatest opportunities.
Timing, favour, open doors, and God’s providence all play a role.
This encourages me to stop comparing my timeline with someone else’s. Faithfulness matters more than racing everyone around me.
Wisdom Often Speaks Quietly
“A quiet spirit can overcome even great mistakes.” (Ecclesiastes 10:4)
Not every problem requires a loud response.
Some situations are better handled with patience, humility, and self-control.
Whether in marriage, leadership, friendships, or business, calm wisdom often accomplishes more than emotional reactions.
I’ve learned that protecting peace is often more valuable than winning arguments.
Keep Sharpening Your Axe
“Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom…” (Ecclesiastes 10:10)
This may be one of my favourite pictures in Scripture.
Many of us work incredibly hard but neglect becoming better.
Sharpening the axe may look like:
- Learning a new skill.
- Reading more books.
- Investing in mentorship.
- Improving systems.
- Resting well.
- Strengthening our spiritual life.
- Taking care of our health.
Sometimes the answer isn’t working harder.
It’s becoming wiser.
We Don’t Know Tomorrow—but God Does
“No one really knows what is going to happen…” (Ecclesiastes 10:14)
Control is an illusion.
Planning is wise, but certainty belongs only to God.
Instead of fearing an uncertain future, we can trust the God who already stands there.
Keep Sowing Even When Results Are Uncertain
“Send your grain across the seas…” (Ecclesiastes 11:1)
“Divide your investments among many places…” (Ecclesiastes 11:2)
“Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant…” (Ecclesiastes 11:4)
“Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon…” (Ecclesiastes 11:6)
These verses felt especially personal.
This season has involved planting many seeds—building a business, developing an app, writing consistently, serving communities, teaching, creating content, and trusting God with opportunities that haven’t fully materialised yet.
Ecclesiastes reminds me not to become paralysed waiting for perfect conditions.
Perfect timing rarely feels perfect while we’re living it.
God often blesses movement more than hesitation.
We may never know which seed He chooses to multiply, so wisdom says: keep planting.
Some Things Belong Only to God
“You cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.” (Ecclesiastes 11:5)
There is freedom in admitting that I don’t need every answer.
Faith means trusting God’s character even when I cannot trace His methods.
The mystery isn’t meant to discourage us.
It’s meant to deepen our dependence.
Refuse to Worry and Care for Your Body
“So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy.” (Ecclesiastes 11:10)
This verse was a timely reminder.
God cares about our whole lives—our minds, our emotions, and our physical health.
Faith doesn’t ignore our bodies.
Rest, nutrition, movement, and healthy habits are all part of stewarding the life God has entrusted to us.
Remember Your Creator Early
“Remember your Creator now while you are young.” (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
Don’t postpone wholehearted devotion until life becomes easier.
Don’t wait until retirement to pursue purpose.
Don’t delay obedience.
The best time to know God deeply is today.
Teaching Is a Kingdom Assignment
“The Teacher was considered wise, and he taught the people everything he knew.” (Ecclesiastes 12:9)
This verse made me smile.
One of the greatest joys God has given me is teaching—whether through writing, speaking, mentoring, or creating resources that help others grow.
It reminded me that teaching isn’t simply sharing information.
It is stewardship.
Whatever wisdom God gives us isn’t meant to stay with us.
It is meant to strengthen others.
The Whole Duty of Man
“Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13–14)
After all the searching, questioning, and observations about life, the Teacher arrives at one beautifully simple conclusion.
Life isn’t ultimately about accumulating wealth.
It’s not about status.
It’s not about achievements.
It’s not even about leaving a legacy.
Our greatest calling is to know God, honour Him, obey Him, and live in a way that pleases Him.
Everything else finds its proper place when this comes first.

When eternity becomes our perspective, today’s obedience becomes far more important than today’s outcomes.

Father, thank You for reminding me that my life is safely in Your hands. Help me to trust You even when I cannot understand Your timing. Give me wisdom to work with excellence, courage to keep planting seeds, and faith to move forward without waiting for perfect conditions. Teach me to enjoy the gifts You have given, steward my health well, and use what I know to encourage others.
