Hey Fam, so I’m here to challenge us to a new lifestyle.
“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border [property], and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me!” And God granted his request.”
Jabez’ situation wasn’t the best and it definitely was not his fault that his mother went through pain while birthing him.
She gave him a name that definitely would have had everyone mocking him but Jabez chose to live honorable! He knew better than to react negatively to the situation he was in. His mindset is worthy of emulation!
A lot of us are in similar situations. I’ll use myself as an example. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon but my name “Abiola” means “We gave birth to wealth” – my parents speaking, meaning, I’m wealth!
But, this was not my situation. I had been struggling. I’ll have money and before I know it, several things would come up with family or friends and my account gets drained. It has been a “living from hand to mouth” situation for me until March 2020!.
I thank God for Bruce Wilkinson’s book – The Prayer of Jabez. Reading that book changed my mindset and gave me new perspective.
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 became my anchor scripture for 2020.
Since the beginning of the year, I have been intentional about living honorably as I daily pray “The Jabez Prayer”. It’s not enough to pray it once believe me!. I’m truly seeing God’s hand in my situation.
Indulge me and take ten minutes to read 1 Chronicles 4. You’ll see the author paused to talk about Jabez as he listed the descendants of Judah.
His story could not be ignored! It’s definitely worthy of emulation! So pleaseeeeee, choose to look past your situation, live honorably and watch God turn your life around!
