Focus on your behavior and not your goal

If you want to achieve your goals, don’t focus on them– Reggie Rivers

I watched Reggie Rivers talk on TEDx yesterday. This quote above by Reggie seemed weird to me but I kept watching. I wanted to understand why he’d say this.

He gave me a whole new perspective on how to achieve my goals and I’m going to try this because looking at my 24 years so far on this earth, I had been focusing on my goals and that hasn’t exactly worked out for me. I’m glad it’s just February so it’s not too late to try achieving my goals a different way this year.

Let me share what i learnt.

  1. Behaviors are building blocks that get me to my goals.
  2. My behaviors are in my control. So ask myself what can I do today, tomorrow and this week to get closer to my goal and write them down each week.
  3. Focus 100% on what’s in my control not what’s outside my control.
