Close that chapter

“It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair…” (John 11: 2). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

Our Focal Scripture gives an insight into the person of Mary, Lazarus’ sister. Mary was the woman who anointed Jesus with oil from her alabaster box (see Luke 7 vs. 36-50, John 12 vs. 3). Mary had led a sinful life; her lifestyle displeased Jesus; bible history suggests that she was a prostitute; the tale of Mary’s life was such that should not be desired.

One day, Mary who was a slave to sin turned a new leaf and encountered Jesus. She put away her negative lifestyle and became a true disciple. She closed the chapter of her past when she broke her alabaster box at Jesus’ feet. She moved from being an offender to being a worshipper. When she closed the chapter of sin and infamy, she accessed a new future of eternal relevance.

Friend, you may never access a glorious future until you close the chapters of negativity in your life; you may not become as great as God has destined you to be if you retain lifestyles you should relinquish; you may miss the mark if your today is an extension of the yesterday that displeased Jesus; you may not transit from where you are to where you should be until you close some chapters.

Today, close the chapter of sin, immorality, inconsistency, incompetence, procrastination, mediocrity, indolence, envy, jealousy, wickedness, lust, etc. Mary closed her old chapters with a sacrifice of her alabaster box. Close the chapter of your past/present with a sacrifice unto God.

The greater future you desire may not become your reality until your negative chapters are closed. Close the chapters you need to close, and heaven will open new chapters of wonder in your destiny.

Declare With Me: I close every chapter of negativity in my destiny; I receive new chapters of wonder, in Jesus’ name!
