“My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world.” – 1 John 4:1 MSG
We have to be careful most especially with what we listen to and take in. For example, if you have a friend who keeps talking bad about someone you don’t really know, after sometime what the person tells you settles somewhere in your mind and you begin to behave somehow towards who was talked about.
This behavior doesn’t help you as a person because you’re already judging and harbouring negative feelings towards someone and you are not even sure if what was talked about is true.
Your friends might have told you what he or she said out of spite for the other person or most likely for their personal gain so you don’t get to benefit from who was talked about.
The only reasons I think a preacher will mislead his or her congregation is for personal gains as well as knowledge their congregation don’t have a deep relationship with God so they will take any word that comes to them.
This is why building a personal relationship with God is of GREAT importance because the HolySpirit will immediately let you know what the preacher is saying is not true but if you don’t know him, just like your friend would tell you something bad about someone else you don’t know and it will sink in and lead to you acting out, because if you knew the person, you would most likely vouch for him or her or probably not even listen at all.
Don’t believe everything you hear, examine it first before you take it in.
Have a great day! 😊
