One of the most powerful truths in Scripture is this: when God decides to bless His people, nothing and no one can overturn it.
In Numbers 22–24, we encounter one of the most fascinating stories in the Bible — Balak, Balaam, and the unseen spiritual battle happening behind the scenes while Israel simply continued their journey.
This passage reminded me deeply that God protects us even from battles we never see.
Balaam: Excellence Opens Doors Before Kings
In Numbers 22, King Balak of Moab was terrified of Israel and decided to hire Balaam to curse them.
“I know that blessings fall on any people you bless, and curses fall on people you curse.” — Numbers 22:6 (NLT)
This immediately reminded me of Proverbs 22 verse 29:
“Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.” — (NLT)
Balaam was skilled and known for his craft, and his reputation brought him before a king.
This teaches a powerful modern lesson:
God expects excellence from us.
When we give our best to what God has placed in our hands, our work can open doors to rooms we never imagined.
Excellence is not pride.
Excellence is stewardship.
Don’t Forget God When You Reach the Palace
One of the most striking moments in Numbers 23 is Balaam’s response after being brought before King Balak.
“I will speak only the message that the Lord puts in my mouth.” — Numbers 23:12 (NLT)
This is so important.
Many people pray to reach positions of influence, but when they get there, they forget the God who brought them there.
Balaam teaches us a vital reminder:
- Influence is not permission to compromise
- Opportunity is not permission to disobey God
- Access to kings is not greater than obedience to God
Wherever God places us, our first loyalty must always remain with Him.
When God Wants to Bless You, He Will Stop Every Curse
By Numbers 24, Balaam had encountered God multiple times and came to a powerful realization:
“By now Balaam realized that the Lord was determined to bless Israel.” — Numbers 24:1 (NLT)
This verse filled me with so much peace.
God was determined to bless Israel. Balak tried repeatedly to curse them.
Altars were built. Sacrifices were made. Plans were formed against them.
Yet every single attempt turned into a blessing instead of a curse.
Why?
Because God had already decided.
This is the heart of the message:
When God decides to bless you, human plans cannot stop it.
God Is Fighting Battles You Know Nothing About
One of the most comforting parts of this story is this: Israel had no idea this was happening.
They didn’t know a king was trying to curse them.
They didn’t know a prophet had been hired against them.
They didn’t know God was intervening repeatedly on their behalf.
Yet God was protecting them anyway.
Sometimes we assume that protection only exists when we see danger.
But Numbers 22–24 reminds us that: God is defending us from unseen attacks, unseen battles, and unseen plans.
Even when we are unaware, God is actively working behind the scenes.
If God Can Speak Through a Donkey, He Can Defend You
Numbers 22 includes one of the most surprising moments in Scripture — God speaking through Balaam’s donkey to stop him from going the wrong way.
This moment shows us something powerful:
God will use anything to accomplish His will.
- He can redirect you.
- He can stop harmful plans.
- He can interrupt wrong paths.
- He can protect you in unexpected ways.
God is never limited in how He chooses to intervene.
A Reminder for Every Believer Today
If you are a child of God, redeemed by Jesus, this story should fill your heart with gratitude.
You may never know:
- The prayers God has answered quietly
- The dangers He has blocked silently
- The attacks He has overturned spiritually
But they are real.
And they are happening daily.
So today, my response is simple:
Thank You Father.
Thank You Jesus.
Thank You Holy Spirit.
Final Reflection
Numbers 22–24 reminds us of three life-changing truths:
- Excellence can open doors before kings.
- Obedience must remain even in positions of influence.
- When God decides to bless you, no curse can stand.
And perhaps the most comforting truth of all:
God is fighting battles for you that you don’t even know exist.
