At the start of every new year, many of us set goals—spiritual goals included. We want to pray more, read the Bible consistently, grow deeper in our faith, and truly become more like Christ. But often, somewhere between good intentions and real transformation, we get stuck.
Today, I watched a video by Pastor Vlad Savchuk where he shared how he studies the Bible. In it, he quoted another pastor who said something that deeply stirred my heart:
“The best translation of the Bible is when you translate God’s Word into your life.”
That statement stayed with me.
Because if we’re honest, the goal of Bible study is not just information—it is transformation. Not just reading, but living. Not just knowing, but becoming.
Why Bible Study Must Go Beyond Reading
The Bible itself makes it clear that God’s Word is meant to change us, not just inform us.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” — James 1:22 (ESV)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” — 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
God’s Word is alive. It shapes our thinking, our decisions, our relationships, and our identity. But for that to happen, we must approach it intentionally—not casually.
A Simple Yet Powerful Bible Study Method: S.O.A.P
Pastor Vlad shared the S.O.A.P method, a simple and deeply effective way to study the Bible in as little as 15 minutes a day.
S.O.A.P stands for:
1. S – Scripture
Write down the verse or passage that stood out to you.
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” — Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
This step helps you slow down and really see what God is saying.
2. O – Observation
Ask questions:
What is happening in this passage? Who is speaking? What is God revealing about Himself? What stands out to me?
“Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” — Psalm 119:18 (NKJV)
3. A – Application
This is where transformation begins.
Ask:
How does this apply to my life right now? What is God inviting me to change? What should I start, stop, or surrender?
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” — Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
“But the word planted in you has the power to save your souls.” — James 1:21 (NIV)
4. P – Prayer
Turn what you’ve learned into a conversation with God.
Thank Him. Ask for help. Surrender. Respond.
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things.” — Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” — Philippians 4:6–7 (ESV)
Why This Matters Now More Than Ever
It’s a new year. Many of us want to do things differently—be more disciplined, more intentional, more spiritually grounded. But the truth is: real change begins from the inside out.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
And how is our mind renewed?
Through God’s Word.
Not scrolling.
Not comparing.
Not striving.
But sitting at His feet.
Our Lives Should Preach Before Our Lips Do
As Christians, our lifestyle should spark curiosity about God. For believers, it should stir hunger. For unbelievers, it should awaken questions.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” — 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
When we truly live out God’s Word, people don’t just hear about God—they encounter Him through us.
You Don’t Need More Time—Just More Intention
One of the most encouraging things about the S.O.A.P method is that it you can start with 15 minutes an
And in those 15 minutes, God can:
Heal your heart, correct your thinking, give you direction, restore your hope and renew your strength.
As you make a habit of it, you’ll find yourself spending more hours with Him. 🤍
“Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
A Gentle Invitation
This year, don’t just read the Bible—live it.
Don’t just highlight verses—become them.
Don’t just listen—obey.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” — Luke 11:28 (ESV)
May we become walking translations of God’s Word—seen, felt, and experienced by everyone around us in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
