Effective Planning: Surrendering Our Plans to God’s Purpose

I’ve always loved Sunday school—even as a teenager. There was something so beautiful about sitting in those small classes, listening to stories about Jesus, asking questions, and learning how faith applies to everyday life. Now, growing up to be privileged to teach Sunday school myself is still so mind-blowing to me.

Thank You, Jesus, for trusting me with hearts. 🤍

Tomorrow, we’ll be discussing Effective Planning, and while preparing for the session, two scriptures stood out to me so strongly.

The first is from Luke 14:33 (MSG):

Simply put, if you’re not willing to take what is dearest to you, whether plans or people, and kiss it good-bye, you can’t be my disciple.”

That verse stopped me in my tracks. It reminded me that following Jesus is not just about having dreams, goals, and plans—it’s about surrendering them. Sometimes, we hold on so tightly to what we want that we forget to ask God what He wants.

The second scripture is Proverbs 16:9 (AMP):

A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], But the Lord directs his steps and establishes them.

This verse perfectly captures the balance: yes, we are meant to plan, think, dream, and prepare—but ultimately, God is the One who directs, establishes, and orders our steps.

This evening, my dear friend Omowunmi Olopade shared something so profound at The Candid Christian Community’s first meeting for 2026. She said:

“God will only place His blessing on His plan which you pursue with His purpose.”

That statement deeply resonated with me.

So many of us want God’s blessing on our plans. But true peace comes when we pause and ask:

Is this God’s plan—or just mine?

Is this aligned with His purpose—or only my preference?

Effective planning in the Kingdom is not about control; it’s about cooperation with God. It’s about writing your goals in pencil and giving God the eraser. It’s about dreaming boldly but holding those dreams with open hands.

When God directs your steps, He also supplies the grace, wisdom, and strength to walk them out. His plans may not always look like what we imagined, but they will always lead us to growth, peace, and eternal fruit.

A Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the privilege of walking with You and for inviting us into Your divine plans. Teach us to surrender our desires, timelines, and expectations to You. Help us to plan with wisdom but trust You fully with the outcome.

Lord, align our hearts with Your purpose. Remove every plan that is not from You, and establish every step You have ordained for us. Give us the humility to let go, the faith to trust You, and the obedience to follow where You lead.

We declare that our lives will not just be well-planned—but God-led.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🤍
