Grateful to Hear His Voice: A Lesson on Holiness and Discernment

There are moments in life when the Holy Spirit whispers something so clear, so piercing, that it stills your heart and redirects your steps.

A few days ago, someone offered me money — a generous, unexpected offer. Normally, I would have followed up quickly, but something in me paused. I wanted to be certain that this “miracle” was truly from the Lord.

Then, on Tuesday evening, while driving back from the salon, God brought two people to mind — my spiritual father, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, and my pastor, Nathaniel Bassey — both men whose lives reflect deep holiness and intimacy with God.

In that moment, I heard His voice clearly in my thoughts:

“Abiola, holiness is not an option.”

It was gentle but firm. Convicting but filled with love.

I don’t know what door I might have opened if I had gone ahead to collect that money, but I’m so grateful that I paused. Grateful that I can still hear His voice. Grateful for the wisdom that comes through discernment and obedience.

God reminded me that holiness isn’t a suggestion — it’s a calling. And when we learn to listen, He protects us from paths that look good but lead to danger.

As believers, it’s our birthright to hear God’s voice. That’s not something reserved for “special” people — it’s for every child of God.

And as I’ve come to learn, the highest form of intimacy is communication.

So I’ll ask you today:

Are you talking to Jesus? Do you have a relationship with Him?

He loves you more than you can imagine. Speak to Him today.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” — John 10:27 (NKJV)
